What we are doing as practices

We at the Huon Valley Health Centre have implemented a number of changes to the way we deliver care to our community in the face of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. This may be confronting to some and an inconvenience to others, however we must to all that we can to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.

We have commenced fever screening at the entrances to the Huonville and Cygnet practices. This is being performed by our exceptional nursing team. You will be asked some screening questions, have your temperature taken and be given an information leaflet. If your temperature is over 38.0 degrees, you will be asked to wait outside or in your car to speak to a nurse. The purpose of fever screening is to ensure the safety of our staff and patients within the practice buildings, and to identify those who are unwell and need be moved to an isolation area.

We have adjusted our waiting rooms. This includes creating a social distance between chairs, and between you and our receptionists. There are hand sanitising stations around the waiting rooms. Doctors will also be using social distancing in their consultation rooms.

We are cancelling all non essential services. This includes some skin procedures, skin checks and cervical screening. If you are contacted and would still like to proceed with your appointment, please ask to speak to a nurse about how we can offer the service to you in a safe manner.

We have disabled online bookings for face to face consultations, but have activated them for telehealth (phone or video) consultations. Please note that our psychologist Tina Hale and our social worker Ruth Neumann continue to accept referrals and are able to speak with you over the phone or internet.

We are offering telehealth consultations via video or phone (if video not available). 

All telehealth consultations are bulk billed.

We have been doing telehealth as a practice since 2011 – we have systems in place to support you to maintain your health.

Our practices remain open. If you need to have a physical examination or treatment, or you would prefer a face to face consultation, we are able to see you in any of our practices.
